The story of the GT500KR is one of Shelby's cleverest triumphs. In 1968, upon hearing that Chevrolet might name their new Corvette the "King of the Road," Carroll Shelby acted immediately, securing the trade dress for the name himself. The resulting 1968 GT500KR became one of the most sought-after collector Mustangs in history.
In tribute to that icon and to celebrate Shelby American’s 60th anniversary, a new King of the Road has been crowned. Built upon the formidable Ford Mustang GT500 platform, this limited-edition GT500KR carries on the royal lineage. Every detail honors the past while delivering a thoroughly modern performance experience.
Shelby GT500KR Power and Performance
The heart of the GT500KR is the massive, Shelby by Whipple 3.8L supercharger system, finished in black. This twin-screw supercharger, complete with a high-volume intercooler, heat exchanger, and an open cold air intake system, boosts the GT500’s 5.2-liter V8 to over 900 horsepower on 93-octane fuel. The powerful exhale is managed by a Shelby by Borla cat-back exhaust system.
Putting that power to the ground required a complete suspension overhaul. The GT500KR features:
- Ride–height adjustable front and rear springs.
- Shelby spec front and rear sway bars.
- A full MagneRide® suspension recalibration.
- Caster camber plates for precise alignment.
